Liposuction, for the removal of unwanted fat is one of the most popular technique both here and world wide. It has developed over the last 20 years into a simple, safe day procedure usually performed under a sedation or "twilight" anesthetic. The process (simplified) is as follows. The areas of resistant fat (hips, stomach, outer thighs etc) are carefully marked out. Then when the patient is asleep, a special solution of weak anaesthetic is introduced into the fat pockets. Small hollow tubes (cannula) about 3 -4 mm in diameter are then used to suck out the excess fat cells. Afterward a light but supportive compression garment is worn for several weeks to ensure optimal results. Changes can be seen immediately though it can take several months to achieve the final result. Most people require only 2 -3 days off work and are up and about the next day.
Liposculpture is essentially a liposuction technique using similar instruments and anaesthetic. However it differs in that it looks at the bigger picture and treats several areas together as a region e.g. outer thigh, hips waist or stomach and waist. The aim is to maximise the contours and achieve the most pleasing profile. Where possible we aim to have a Liposculpture approach even if the patient only has one area of concern e.g. the tummy. We still like to blend the stomach back into the waist and hips to give the best shape possible.
