An
eyelid operation is a simple operation with long-term results. It has a
refreshing effect on the midface that lasts for many years.
UPPER LIDS
The
most common procedure is the removal of excess skin and tissue from
above the upper lids, leaving a re-defined eyelid. There is a hairline
scar left hidden in the normal eyelid crease. The heavy tired look is
replaced by a fresh open look. However it is not possible to be left
with the “startled rabbit” look that you sometimes see after a formal
brow lift – the eyebrow position is not touched in this procedure.
Stitches are removed after 5 days. There is usually mild bruising only
and no pain. The average person is back to work in 5 -7 days.
LOWER LIDS
The
next most common procedure is the removal of fat bags from under the
eyes. In this case there is a small incision made on the inside of the
eyelid thus leaving no external, visible scar. There are no stitches.
Again the average person is back at work in 5 -7 days.
The
third procedure is the removal of excess skin from the lower lid. This
leaves a fine scar hidden high up under the eyelashes.
Eyelid surgery is easily done as a day case using a light sedation
anaesthetic so you are home by lunchtime.
